Semantic Authoring, Annotation and Knowledge Markup Workshop
co-located with the 4th International Conference on Knowledge Capture (K-Cap 2007), Whistler, British Columbia, Canada October 28-31, 2007
Invited Talk
Dr. Paul Buitelaar - German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence, Germany
Paul Buitelaar is senior researcher at the DFKI Language Technology Lab and co-head of the DFKI Competence Center Semantic Web. His main research interests are on all topics related to semantic-based information access. At DFKI he has been a researcher and/or project leader on a number of national and international funded projects, e.g. on concept-based and cross-lingual information retrieval (MuchMore), semantic navigation (VIeWs), ontology-based information extraction and ontology learning (SmartWeb), semantic-based multimedia analysis (K-Space). A current focus is also on ontology libraries and ontology search (OntoSelect) - http://olp.dfki.de/ontoselect/
Title of the talk:
Ontologies in Semantic Annotation: Selection, Population, Lexicalisation
Abstract:
The talk will address three issues in the application of ontologies for semantic annotation: the selection of the appropriate ontology for the annotation task; the population of a selected ontology through information extraction from text; the lexicalisation of ontologies for the purpose of ontology-based information extraction from text. Each of these issues will be addressed through a particular application: the OntoSelect ontology library and search engine (http://olp.dfki.de/ontoselect/); the SOBA system for ontology-based information extraction from text; the LingInfo lexicon model for the integration of lexical/linguistic information in ontologies.
